Davao City Vice Mayor and Presidential son Paolo Duterte's resignation has sparked controversy all around the country yet he gave an emotional message to his constituents.

Along with his message was a photo of him with his wife January Navares and kids Uno and Sabina.



He said that there will be no Pulong without the people of Davao.

The Vice Mayor shocked Davao City councilors during a special city council session on Monday, December 25, when he declared that he would be resigning as vice mayor.

“Anytime….Sampit lang mo mga Davaoeño…Daghang Salamat…Ug wala mo di ko mahimong PULONG”, the Presidential son wrote on his Facebook account.



Duterte's request to resign from his post has been sent to Malacañang, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said Wednesday, December 27.

"The resignation was signed yesterday by Paolo, sent through [courier] today to the Office of the President," Duterte-Carpio, Paolo's sister said.

The local government will consider him on leave until the President has accepted his resignation.



As to who will replace him, Sarah said it will a highest-voted councilor coming from a district with the higest percentage of voters.

In his resignation letter, the Davao City vice-mayor said he is giving up his post after "recent unfortunate events in my life that are closely related to my failed first marriage."

"These, among others, include the maligning of my reputation in the recent name dropping incident in the Bureau of Customs smuggling case and the very public squabble with my daughter. The other person in this failed relationship is incorrigible and cannot be controlled And I take responsibility for all that has happened as a result of a wrong decision to marry at a very young age," he said.
