De Lima then Secretary of Justice filed graft cases against Arroyo who was Aquino's immediate successor.
Arroyo was arrested for plunder in 2012.
Aside from plunder, she also faced charges over electoral fraud in connection with polls in 2007, as well as corruption over an aborted broadband deal with a Chinese company.
"Mrs. Arroyo confirmed what I'd always suspected... That Leila Delima filed weak cases against the former president --not for justice or revenge-- but to get her out of the way until the end of Noynoy's term, after which she could be set free.," Angeles said.
"The Aquino administration wasn't after justice. There was no case. No evidence. No crime they could prove," she added.
The lawyer however made it clear that what she felt about Arroyo, who she criticized before was not set in stone.
"No, I did not suddenly turn around and change my mind about opposing her during her term. But certainly one can identify with injustice. #mixedfeelings"
Arroyo since her detention, denied the charges and said that Aquino, the president who succeeded her, had a vendetta against her.
On July 2016, the former president's plunder case for an alleged misuse of Php 366b million fund from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) was dismissed.
A motion for reconsideration filed by the Office of the Solicitor General was dismissed by a vote of 11-4 by the SC on April 18 of this year.
In her petitions, Arroyo sought reversal of two Sandiganbayan resolutions dated April 6, 2015 and September 10, 2015 that denied her demurrer to evidence plea.
A demurrer to plea is a motion which is anchored on the insufficiency of the evidence given by the prosecution.
“Not a single exhibit of the 637 exhibits offered by the prosecution nor a single testimony of the 21 witnesses of the prosecution was offered by the prosecution to prove that [Arroyo] amassed, accumulated, or acquired even a single peso of the alleged ill-gotten wealth amounting to P365,997,915.00 or any part of that amount alleged in the Information,” Arroyo’s petition stated.
The dissenting justices who dissented are Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, Associate Justices Marvic Leonen and Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa.
