Vice President Leni Robredo apparently misquoted Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief Lt. Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero, by saying that both assured her that the military will not support any move towards a revolutionary government.

“They (Guerrero and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana), in no uncertain terms, assured us that they will not support a revolutionary government or any moves that threatened our Constitution,” Robredo said as the officer was conducting a security briefing for her at the Philippine Air Force headquarters in Pasay.

“We asked them because there are officials of the government who are involved in discussions regarding the revolutionary government. But …we were assured, and the assurance was firm that they will not support such plan,” she added.

Since President Rodrigo Duterte sat in power in June 2016, speculations and even suggestions of a revolutionary government’s birth has surfaced, as the president himself hinted on it.

Robredo however, assured the public that the military leaders have made it clear.

Two days later, Duterte responded by saying that Robredo was “right”.

““Tama siya. Tinanong ko ang military. Sabi nila, ‘Hindi kami susuporta ng revolutionary government.’ Sabi ko, ‘Why?’ Sabi nila, ‘Dahil sabi ni Vice President Robredo.’ ‘O bakit?”’Sabi niya, ‘Mas gusto namin siya. Babae at saka hindi nagmumura.’ Ganun,” Duterte told reporters in Da Nang, Vietnam, where he is attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.

However, Vivian Velez, spokesperson of Network Revolution through Facebook revealed that the VP had the officers misquoted, according to an undisclosed source.

The post read:

“Network Revolution thru its spokesperson Ms.Vivian Velez sought clarification on the statement of VP Leni Robredo regarding what SND Delfin Lorenzana said about the establishment of revolutionary government.”

According to Velez, all Lorenzana said was,”the President is a lawyer, therefore he knows what he is doing."

Velez said the Sec gave no mention of a revolutionary government.

“Somebody lied to the Filipino people again using the security briefing as a cover to preempt the sovereign will that is about to explode,”she said.
