An overseas Filipino worker in Saudi Arabia was hailed a hero after he jumped into a flood to save an elderly man who was trapped, as the authorities hesitated to take action.

A video of the incident went viral in social media .



The Filipino was identified as Dawood Balindo, who was one of the onlookers who waited for the Civil Defense to rescue an elderly man trapped inside a submerged vehicle.

Balindo said that he jumped into the water when he saw that  the authorities hesitated to step in.

“I saw the man trapped in the water. I did not hesitate, I left the car I was driving and rushed to save him. Civil defense men were watching me saving him,” he said.

When he was done with his rescue, he claims that the Civil Defense officers explained to him that they were waiting for the flood water to subside.



He however, said that her felt the need to  save a man from imminent danger and would not opt to watch and not to anything about it.

“I knew I had to jump and brave the floods in order to save ‘Baba’,” Balindo said.

After the incident, Saudi's Interior Minister said he has ordered an investigation on the lack of action from the part of the officers in the scene.
