The US Senator posted about such meeting in his Twitter account.
He said, "Senator Trillanes and I discussed US-Philippines alliance, combating corruption and protecting human rights amid the narcotics crisis".
Lopez found a remedy in calling on to Senate Pres Pimentel to ask if the visits were official.
"Is this an official mission? Is this trip fully endorsed by the Senate? What is the nature of this trip? Is there a treaty between the US and the Philippines being discussed? New treaty? Or old one? If so, why Senator Trillanes? Why was he designated?," he said.
He said that if the taxpayers were paying for the visit, he wasn't given a memo.
"Can you please explain? #WeNeedAnExplanation," the post read.
Rubio was among the three US senators who condemned the extrajudicial killings in the Philippines, and blamed it on President Rodrigo Duterte.
Months ago, he was also charged by Venezuelan leaders for allegedly toppling the government of President Nicolas Maduro.
Sources have said that the reason behind the Senator's US trip was to convince leaders to hinder the upcoming visit of US President Donald Trump to the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Trillanes has yet to comment on the issue.

Why is Senator Antonio Trillanes in Washington DC meeting with Senator Marco Rubio?
Is this an official mission? Is this trip fully endorsed by the Senate? What is the nature of this trip? Is there a treaty between the US and the Philippines being discussed? New treaty? Or old one? If so, why Senator Trillanes? Why was he designated?
More importantly, is this trip being shouldered by the Filipino taxpayer?
I did not see the memo Mr Senate President.
Can you please explain?
