Duterte called Trillanes an "egotist coward", and showed the audience in his speech in Digos City a gun he tucked in his waist.
"Du30 is a criminal in his statement that tells soldiers to challenge Trillanes to a duel. Encouraging suicide is a crime. So is encouraging murder and homicide and duel," Petalcorin said.
"Yang statement ni Du30, I see it as an implied order of the President cum military Commander-in-Chief to kill a Senator of the Republic of the Philippines," he added.
Petalcorin questioned if the President wanted Trillanes dead because the latter is investigating his son.
Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte is being accused by the senator of involvement with the illegal drug trade in the country.
"Digong, ikaw nakaisip nyang duelo, ikaw gumawa. Soldier ka rin eh, Commander-in-Chief pa nga. Put your action where your mouth is. Sayang yang lousy military uniform mo at bitbit mong baril kung sarili mo hindi mo magawa yang gusto mong duel with Trillanes," he said.
Duterte in his speech spoke in Bisaya, saying “Sus, ako maenkwentro ana, bakit naman ako nagadala og baril (If he will only face me squarely, why would I bring a gun with me)?” he said.
Showing his gun, he added, “Way lisensya ni ha (This is not licensed, mind you),” he added, eliciting laughter from the crowd. “Dili man kailangan og lisensya para mopatay og tawo (You don’t need a license to kill a man).”
Petalcorin as a "reminder" said that Duterte once challenged a journalist to a duel, the journo came, but the President allegedly did not.
Said journo is Waldy Carbonnell who allegedly came to place where then Davao City Mayor Duterte asked to meet for a duel, but the latter did not show up.
Carbonnell was seeking to find answers on the death of broadcaster Jun Pala.
