GOOD NEWS! Crime rate hit low in the Philippines based on latest SWS survey

The latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed that crime victimization by property crimes such as robbery, burglar, and car napping has declined to 3.1%. Physical violence decreased to 3.7%

The survey was conducted based on a sample of 1,200 respondents nationwide from June 23 to 26. As compared to the figures in March 2017, families saying they fear for their safety in the streets in Metro Manila are lesser.



Sarah Jaberina, an employee, shared that she believes that the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) intensified police operations in Metro Manila has contributed greatly in lowering crime rate in Metro Manila. In 2016, her laptop was snatched on her way to work which left her traumatized.

“After I filed a report at the barangay, they immediately took action. And there are policemen roving in the area. I somehow feel secured,” Jaberina said.

Meanwhile, the rate of drug addicts in National Capital Region has declined to 11 points as the Duterte administration strongly campaigns against crimes and illegal drugs.

Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella stated that although these figures show a positive outcome, the government has to do more effort to make the streets and communities all throughout the country permanently safe.
