“We are ready to assist our successors. At the end of the day, we are all Filipinos,” Aquino said during an exclusive interview with The Manila Bulletin.
The former President said that the fact that he and his party were no longer the principal leaders, does not mean his refusal to aid the government.
He also denied allegations of plots by the Liberal Party to oust the incumbent administration.
“All these people accusing us of destabilization, spending so much energy on being very negative. What if we were able to somehow convince them to help us build, where will we be? All the energies expended in addressing a particular issue that is a non-issue would have been spent on something more productive,” Aquino said.
“We have differences and I think it is incumbent as a citizen of this country that when you think you can do better, you can express your opinion," he added.
Aquino said that it is time to end conflict and talk about how the nation should act to achieve its goals.
"We want the country to achieve its potentials and he (Duterte) is the leader of our country,” he added.
