The Marines cleared the house were the Maute Group’s Machin guns were stored and then they have found something else. A cash amounting to Php 52 million was discovered in a house near the Maute’s stockroom for high powered guns in Mapandi. The said amount as enclosed in plastic bundles but P200,000 was stored in envelopes.
In the same house, the troops found checks with no specific payee but the bearer of the note (pay to cash), amounting to Php 27 million. The total amount of cash and cash equivalents amounted to Php 79 million.
The authorities told that the owner of the house was one of the 200,000 Marawi residents who fled after the Maute took over Marawi last May 23.
The investigators are now checking the paper trail if the money belonged to the terrorist group. President Duterte stated before that these groups are being financially supported by foreign terrorist groups and from the drug money.
