Not all of church condones killings in drug war, documentary shows
A documentary made by VICE News of HBO shows that not all members of the Catholic Church in the Philippines are against the war on drugs of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The video was shared by a fan page of the president, "Tatay Digong" in Facebook, with the caption:
"Nagulat ang isang international media interviewer sa di inaasahang sagot ng mga kaparian na sumusuporta sa War-On Drugs ni Pangulong Duterte. Ano masasabi nyo dito mga ka-DDS? Paki SHARE at ng malaman ng CBCP na hindi lahat ng pari ay tulad nila mag isip,"
The video shows Rev. Leopoldo S. Tumulak, military ordinariate of the Philippines said he doesn't condemn the killings in the drug war.
"I think that that... that the president, like everybody else, has only good intentions,"
When asked if the church is doing enough for the dilemma he said, "it's doing enough, but not really enough. We can do more," he said.
As it turns out, other church leaders are agreeing to the methods of Duterte.
Rev. Jerry Bongcawil from Orani Bataan said, "We agree with the president because there is no other solution"
He said that he was surprised as before Duterte, little was known about the gravity of the problem.
Bongcawil said that he agreed with the methods which involves the killing of suspected drug criminals. He said that every human life is important "but if you make some scientific proportion, that's small".
"If you think of the scientific proportion for millions, 6,000 is nothing."
