Oscar Picazo: 'Yellows are always dumber than Duterte'
President Rodrigo Duterte, now chairman of the Association of South East Asian Nations has vowed to sponsor the  membership of Mongolia and Turkey into the association despite their geographic positions causing people to react negatively.

One netizen however, defended Duterte especially from supporters of the Liberal Party, who he said are always "dumber" than him.

Oscar Picazo in his Facebook account defended Duterte who some some LP supporters said "needed a map" and said that nothing is set in politics, even in geopolitics, and cited examples to strengthen his claim.

He said that countries such as Sri Lanka and Papau New Guinea have also expressed interest in joining the ASEAN despite their geographic disqualification, and in the end were unsuccessful.

"Examples abound on geographic anomalies of seemingly geographically-determined associations and groupings. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) originally consisted of 12 Northern Atlantic countries, but now includes more than half a dozen countries in inland central Europe and the Mediterranean, nowhere near the “North Atlantic” as originally envisioned," he said.

He added that the country Sudan which is clearly in Africa, is not part of WHO AFRO, but of WHO EMRO (Eastern Mediterranean).

He said that this fact can be checked by the LP supporters and it should be clear in the map that Sudan is miles away from the Mediterranean, nor is their culture Mediterranean.

India, he said, has wanted to join the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), consisting of countries in the Pacific Rim when it is nowhere near the Pacific Rim, but there are economic and geopolitical reasons why it wants to join APEC.

He also brought up how some Filipinos were voting to make the country a state of the United States of America despite its obvious distance from it.

"So, my dear yellowtards, stop being such smart alecks. Do not be literal. There are reasons why countries not in the same geographic zone that an association represents, want to join that association. We should all feel proud that countries outside Southeast Asia want to join ASEAN. And since nothing is cast in stone, who knows ASEAN may expand in the future through appropriate amendment of its charter? You, smart alecks, obviously have very limited imagination. Kawawa naman kayo."

He also said that Duterte's manner in negotiating with countries is expected from a president.

"At saka, ano naman ang sasabihin mo sa heads of state na gustong mag-join sa asosasyon mo? Sesermonan mo ba ng elementary level geography habang binibigyan sila ng mapa? Or would you smile, extend your hand, and get them into a huddle on the future of geopolitics," he said.

"The truth is, countries choose the groups that suit them. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes they don't," he added.

Duterte has claimed to have met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Mongolian Prime Minister Jargaltulga Erdenebat on the sidelines of the ‘One Belt, One Road’ summit in Beijing.

“They want to join ASEAN and since I am now the chair, the Philippines is, they wanted me to sponsor their entry and I said, ‘Yes, why not," Duterte said.
