Imee Marcos dares Callamard: Try Shabu for a week, let's see if it has no effect

Ilocos Norte governor Imee Marcos has posed a challenge to United Nations Special rapporteur Agnes Callamard to try Methamphetamine or Shabu after the latter said that it has no effect that could damage the brain.

Callamard made the claim in a tweet, quoting a certain professor Hart as having said that there is no evidence that the drug leads to violence or causes brain damage.



Marcos then responded in her May 9 column for Bulgar. She said, “Kung wala naman palang scientific evidence na nakababaliw itong shabu, bakit hindi ito ipasubok sa kanya? Pabatakin kaya ang ale na yan ng shabu! Sige, kahit one batak a day na lang for one week o kahit isang buwan at tingnan natin kung walang epek.”

The governor even added that Callamard could herself be taking the drug.

"O baka naman gumagamit na siya nito kaya wala siyang nakikitang diperensya. Wa’ epek sa kanya, ganun?”

Callamard recently visited the Philippines for an event by the Commission on Human Rights and she was allegedly unable to inform the Philippine government about the visit.




Malacanang Palace has expressed his dismay at how Callamard allegedly violated United Nations protocol.

Callamard is a known critic of President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs and has been relentless in her intention to conduct an investigation on the extrajudicial killings in the country.

Marcos questioned the kind of evidence that Callamard is looking for, as any doctor would agree that Shabu is detrimental to a person's mental health.

“Kahit siguro sinong doktor ang tanungin mo rito kung anong epekto ng drugs, tiyak na isa lang ang isasagot: Nagkakasapak sa ulo. At yung maraming kaso ng rape, masaker at kung anu-ano pang karumal-dumal na krimen, kadalasan ang may kagagawan ay bumatak ng shabu,” she said.
