Former Interior Secretary Rafael Alunan in his Facebook account supported Gina Lopez after her appointment as Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary was rejected by the Commission on Appointments.
Lopez has been grilled during the final deliberations on Tuesday because of her memorandum requiring miners to put up a two million trust fund per hectare of land they disturbed.
Lopez has been targeting mining companies which she claims have been exploiting and abusing the natural environment of the country, earning her the ire of miners.
Sixteen members of the twenty-five member body voted against her appointment.
Alunan said that despite this, Lopez was successful in sending her message, after the talk wet loud in the public.
"What enlightened citizens must do now is to close ranks and take appropriate action to ensure that human and ecological security is applied in every part of the country starting with strict compliance with the laws, regulations and procedures of the land,"
Alunan said Lopez showed that things must be done the right way. This is thus central to the change Filipinos seek.
Lopez is the second appointee of President Rodrigo Duterte to be removed from position by the CA, following former Foreign Secretary Perfecto Yasay.
"Gina did not fail. She succeeded in opening the eyes, hearts and minds of millions,' he said.
He claimed that Lopez's actions gave meaning to "tunay na pagbabago".
He further suggested that Duterte should re-hire Lopez as his Presidential Adviser on Human and Ecological Security.
