Davaoeña's message to pretenders: "I am more scared of terrorists than I am of Martial Law"
Another Mindanoan wrote an open letter addressed to the people who pretend to know Davao and Mindanao more than they actually do.

Shanez CT, who is from Davao City and an alumnus of Ateneo de Manila University said this is not the right time for the opposition to spew their superior, intellectual and politically-correct opinions just to worsen an already tragic situation.

One time lang talaga.

My friends know I hardly post on Facebook but when people pretend to know Davao and Mindanao more than they actually do, it ticks me off no end that I can't help but rant.

There are those who blame President Duterte (as they always do) for the incident. Let me remind you. The Zamboanga siege, an incident very similar to what is happening in Marawi, took place under the previous administration's watch. Did you guys blame the sitting president then? You obviously didn't.
Some people would grasp at anything...boulders, rocks, pebbles and even tiny grains of sand, to hurl at the president and his administration. Nitpickers, I would call them. Anything really, just to make the government look bad. Hey, everyone has the right to express himself. I know that.

But guess what? Now is NOT the right time for haters to spew their superior, intellectual and politically-correct opinions just to worsen an already tragic situation.

"Nasaan ang Pangulo?", they ask. He's actually on his way back home, cutting short his Russian trip to handle the situation, just in case you didn't know. He couldn't have possibly predicted that this would happen, could he? But at least he's doing something about it. And that says a lot in comparison to leaders whose names need not be mentioned, when their absence was glaringly obvious during times they were needed the most (i.e. super typhoons and military massacres). But, let's not get into that.

You "lucky" guys who currently feel safe, miles and miles away from Mindanao, have no idea what the people of Marawi are going through, how they may be cowering in fear everytime they would hear gunshots or strange voices outside their homes. Some have practically begged thru social media that the President declare Martial Law to put an end to their nightmare.

Now that the President has declared Martial Law in Mindanao, those within the safe confines of their homes far, far away react violently as though they're the ones under siege. This is not about you guys!!! This is about people suffering in Marawi!!!

Is it an overkill? Why the whole Mindanao? The island is vulnerable at this point and the government is just trying to contain the situation, lest it spill over to the neighboring regions. In fact, many of us feel safe with the current "lockdown" status of Davao City. After all, the Maute group was responsible for the Roxas bombing in Davao last year. And like my friend Emil put it, it's business as usual, with more precautionary measures and security checks, just to be sure.

Ok, look. I certainly wouldn't welcome Martial Law with a warm embrace, but with the safeguards put in place by the 1987 Constitution and the vigilance of the Filipinos with social media as a platform to report abuses and atrocities, I would personally say at this point that I am more scared of terrorists than I am of Martial Law. Think about it --Marawi...Manchester...Paris...America's 9-11. What about you guys? What would you be more scared of?

MY point. YOU do NOT know what it is like to live in chaotic times. WE in Mindanao DO. So, don't pretend to know what is best for us because YOU DON'T.

Now, if you can't stand behind the President just because you hate his guts, why don't you rally behind the people of Marawi who need our prayers now, more than anything else.

I believe that would be the DECENT thing to do.
