ICC dismissed Mexican drug war case, if they pursue Duterte's, "alam nyo na", says Int'l relations expert

Social media activist and expert of international relations Sass Sasot in her Facebook page commented on the recent complaint filed in the International Criminal Court by Edgar Matobato lawyer Joe Sabio against President Rodrigo Duterte and 11 men from his administration.

Sasot said her information is going to "fatal to their" case, claiming that the recent move had a predent, which was the Mexican war on drugs.



The Mexican war on drugs on 2011, an activist named Nezai led a complaint in the ICC against Felipe Calderon, the president of Mexico who launched a war on drugs in 2006.

The complaint was signed by 23,000 Mexican citizens.

The complaint read that the war on drugs by Calderon have killed 45000 Mexicans and over 400 human rights cases were pending.

The complaint read that Calderon sent his soldiers to the streets and shot dead civilians and tortured suspects.

This was filed on November 2011, yet the ICC prosecutor Luis Ocampo declared that he will not intervene with the complaint.

"Can you imagine, forty-five thousand killed, 473 human rights violations cases, tapos 23,000 pinermahan yung complaint, yet sinabi ni Luis Ocampo na hindi papatulan ng ICC."

Sasot said that this was because Ocampo said the ICC does not judge political decisions or political responsibility.



Sasot said that should the ICC give the complaint of Sabio a chance, "alam nyo na".

"They want to use the media mileage, to destroy the external legitimacy  of President Rodrigo  Duterte."

Sasot mentioned that on the 8th of May, there will be a Universal Periodic Review in the country whereSwitzerland., Paraguay and Kenya will review the human rights situation in the country.

These countries will read the report from the Commission on Human Rights and NGO's including the Human Rights Watch.

These organizanizations will make a "shadow report" which is different from the report of the government and these will be sent to different countries that are members of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Sasot then questioned if the recent visit by Vice President Leni Robredo to South Africa waas to talk to the ministers of Kenya.

"This is all for PR purposes," commented Sasot on the "condemnation" of different countries to President Rodrigo Duterte. The Universal Periodic Reviews, she said is one of these schemes.
