Pacquiao not ignorant but understands how Congress works unlike Drilon, says former rep
Former Congressman and now Bayan Muna Rep Teddy Casiño in his Facebook page defended Senator Manny Pacquiao for the latter's criticized statement claiming that the number of the members in the Commission on Appointments was dictated by the Games and Amusements Board.
When asked by Senator Franklin Drilon why the Commission on Appointments has seven members, not nine five or three, Pacquiao replied that it was a pattern provided by the GAB.
This statement earned Pacquiao hits that say this statement shows his ignorance.
Casino however, has a different opinion on the matter saying Pacquiao's words revealed hia "deep understanding of how Congress actually works".
"You see, unlike Drilon, Pacquiao has served as both congressman and senator. He knows that Congress is a numbers game. He also knows that Congress serves mainly to amuse and entertain the people. Therefore he is correct in concluding that it is the GAB that actually determines the rules in Cogress," he said.
"To quote Sen. Pacquiao's favorite book: "The truth shall set you free.""
The CA is a body of the Congress provided by the Constitution. It confirms certain appointments made by the President.
Meanwhile the Games and Amusements Board "regulates and supervises professional sports and allied activities to combat and prevent the existence and proliferation of illegal bookie joints and other forms of organized illegal gambling connected with all play-for-pay sports and amusement games".
