Retired Davao cop and self-confessed Davao Death Squad hitman Arturo Lascañas, if he really was speaking the truth, should've surrendered himself to the Philippine National Police and not try to get press and public attention, said Manila Bulletin columnist Jetsy Tiglao on March 14.
She said that the retired cop should have just signed a confession and have himself jailed instead of showing up to Senate hearings and press conferences and giving "cocky testimonies without a tinge of remorse".
Tiglao noted how Lascañas tried to pin down the highest official of the land.
The retired Davao cop admitted to having ordered the killing of 200 drug suspects under the leadership of then City Mayor and now Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
He said there will be four more hitmen to confess.
Tiglao said that she hoped the Senate will not buy the story and insist on another hearing.
"If the senators who support these people insist on another hearing, then I suggest that the Department of Justice and the Philippine National Police show up at the Senate and arrest the loonies as soon as they confess to their crimes," she said.
"We hope that Lacson, Gordon, and the other sensible senators will take no heed of Lascañas’ teaser that there are four more members of his “Davao Death Squad,” all killers like him, willing to give public testimony," she added.
Lascañas is the second key witness as Edgar Motabato who also pinned killings to President Rodrigo Duterte surfaced last year and is currently on a charge for frustrated murder, and if proven guilty, like Lascañas, will face possibilities of being given the recently approved punishment of Death Penalty.
