Several days after Philippine National Police Chief Ronald Dela Rosa ordered the temporary abolishment of the PNP’s war on drugs, Senator Leila Delima expressed her dissenting comments towards the move.
Politics.com reports that the lady senator said that she does not see any change in the Duterte administration’s policy pertaining to human rights. She elaborated that President Rodrigo Duterte’s government must “learn to value and uphold the law.”
Sen. De Lima also expressed her concern especially now that the military is involved in the police “cleansing” which will include means to stop the widespread corruption in the PNP.
“With all of these na nangyayari ngayon, na nakakabahala na naman at na i-involve ang military, to me that would be the same dog with a different collar," she said.
De Lima, in statement dated February 1, said, “Mga pulis din, without re-orienting them, without really instilling in them the values and the principles of human rights, respect for the rule of law, pareho rin yan”
It can be remembered that President Duterte himself asked the military to participate in “cleansing” the PNP after the police department got tangled in issues concerning the slain South Korean inside Camp Crame.
