Following the claims of his former colleague about the existence of the Davao Death Squad (DDS), Retired Superintendent Dionisio Abude expressed his disappointment and dismay over SPO3 Arturo Lascañas.

"Syempre kinsa man dili matingala.. sa senado nagsulti mi nga kini ang nahitabo...wala gyud ko kabalo, wala ko kabalo asay tinood," Abude told ABS-CBN News.

(Of course, who would not wonder, during the Senate hearing, we said that there's no DDS, I don't know why all of a sudden he changed his statements.)

In October 2016, both Lascañas and Abude appeared before the Senate to deny the existence of the said death squad which allegedly operated under the orders of President Rodrigo Duterte when he was still mayor of Davao City.

Lascañas appeared before the media on early Monday, February 20, to retract his previous statement. This time, Lacañas admitted being part of the DDS who were paid an amount ranging from P20,000 to P100,000 for each person killed.

He also said that it the money came from Duterte.

Accompanying Lascañas in the press conference were Duterte critic Senator Antonion Trillanes and several lawyers.

The  Malacanang Palace has refuted the claims and has issued a statement calling Lacañas’ allegations mere acts of “character assassination” and a “demolition job” against President Duterte.
