The news of the acquittal of so-called "pork barrel queen" Janet Lim Napoles, as recommended by the Office of the Solicitor General, has received negative feedback from the public since its announcement on Wednesday, February 15.
Many questioned the move especially that the pork barrel scam left a great impact and made people question the status of corruption in the country.
But fearless lawyer Trixie Cruz-Angeles clarified the difference of Napoles' acquittal to the pork barrel scam legal motions.
"Even if Napoles is acquitted on the charge of serious illegal detention, that does not mean the cases involving actual corruption will be affected," explained Cruz-Angeles in a Facebook post.
The OSG acquitted Napoles on the crime of serious illegal detention of her cousin and then aid, Benhur Luy, who served as the state witness on the corruption cases against her. Napoles was found guilty by a Makati court of forcibly detaining Luy sometime in 2012 to 2013.
Napoles was sentenced to 40 years on prison or reclusion perpetua in April 2015. The corruption charges against her, as of this writing, remains unresolved.
