"There will be no EDSA IV", doctor says Leni trying to win church by opposing contraceptives
"Young people are having sex. With or without contraceptives. The government's ( of which you are a part; you are still the Vice President, aren't you?) duty is to promote health, and prevent early pregnancies and diseases through sex education in schools and by making contraceptives available to those who need them."
Doctor Ethel Pineda gave a message to Vice President Leni Robredo: It is the goovernment's job to take care of people's health, and so it is their duty to distribute contraceptives.
In June 2015, the SC issued a TRO stopping the DOH from distributing the contraceptives “Implanon” and “Implanon NXT” under its reproductive health program.
Pineda said the contraceptives will expire next year, so the government shoudl distribute them.
Robredo said distributing the contraceptives will only promote promiscuity.
Pineda said cited articles, even citing the United Nations Popiulation Fund which claimed that the Philippines is the only country in the Asia-Pacific region where teenage ooregnancy rate rose over the last two years.
UNFPA country representative Klaus Beck said Tuesday that Filipino girls aged 15 to 19 make up 10 percent of the population of 100 million, and one out of 10 of them have already given birth.
She also cited UNFPA country representative Klaus Beck saying that Filipino girls aged 15 to 19 make up 10 percent of the population of 100 million, and one out of 10 of them have already given birth and that ut of the 29 Filipinos who get infected every day in the Philippines, more than half or 19 are 15 to 24 years old. She said young people are having sex, regardless of whether they have contraceptives or not.
"The government's ( of which you are a part; you are still the Vice President, aren't you?) duty is to promote health, and prevent early pregnancies and diseases through sex education in schools and by making contraceptives available to those who need them," she said.
"On matters like this, the government should remain secular. Let the parents and the church take care of the youth's moral concerns," she added.
She claimed Robredo is trying to earn favors from the church.
"It is so trapo to be pandering to the demands of the religious. Please do not swap the welfare of the our youth ( and women) with political favors from the church. EDSA IV is not going to happen," she said.
