Open letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg: Take action on detractors
In an open letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Duterte supporter RG San Luis asked that the social media giant take action on the “mass reporting” done against pro-Duterte Facebook pages by their detractors, most of which are affiliated with the Liberal Party.
San Luis said that the attempts to smear the Duterte administration are only hindering the president’s call for unity in the country and that it is a curtailment of the right to free speech.
Duterte won the May 2016 presidential election via landslide victory. The Mayor from Davao’s triumph, according to San Luis, can be credited to the “excellent social media strategy executed by his social media operatives.
Pro-Duterte continue to receive notifications that they are violating Facebooks community standards and that the reports caused the page “Senyora Santibañez” to be taken down despite having over a million followers.
“His [Duterte] detractors are composed mainly of the liberal intelligentsia elite in the Philippines coming from civil society” and the Ninoy Aquino-founded Liberal Party.
These efforts also exists overseas in the United States led by Loida Nicolas Lewis, widow of Reginald Lewis of Beatrice TLC fame who is a staunch supporter of the Liberal Party.
He also quipped on media agencies, both local and foreign, for their biased reportage causing “a raging battle on Facebook for the hearts and minds of our fellow Filipinos.”
Cited in the letter is the widely discussed “cursing” of President Duterte on then-US President Barack Obama during the ASEAN Summit held in Vientiane, Laos last year. San Luis accused media parties on their misreporting and that file video shows that “Duterte did not curse President Obama.”
Speculations on international support to the media by “non-governmental organizations identified with billionaire George Soros” also made the post. Included in these organizations are Amnesty International and Human Right’s Watch.
San Luis attached screen grabs of such social media operatives to support his claims. The photos explicitly gave instructions on how to report pro-Duterte pages.
The post ended with San Luis’ plea to Zuckerberg hoping that he finds “merit in this appeal and understand how Facebook has become a powerful tool in our fight for a clean and honest government.”

I would like to bring to your attention, in behalf of the 20M or so Filipinos who voted for President Rodrigo R. Duterte, the brazen attempt at curbing freedom of speech on your social media platform, by his political detractors.
As you may well know by now, President Duterte's win in the Presidential election held last May 2016 was largely through the excellent social media strategy executed by his social media operatives. It was able to galvanize and harness the support of Filipinos in the Philippines and abroad, in making his platform of government known to potential and actual supporters which resulted in his coming out ahead of four other rivals for the post.
His detractors are composed mainly of the liberal intelligentsia elite in the Philippines coming from civil society and the Liberal Party. The Liberal Party was founded and controlled by the late father's of former President Benigno C. Aquino III and defeated Presidential candidate Manuel A. Roxas II.
Despite President Duterte's call for unity after his win at the polls, these detractors continue in their attempts to bring down his duly elected government. The efforts are being spearheaded in the United States by Loida Nicolas Lewis, widow of Reginald Lewis of Beatrice TLC fame who is a staunch supporter of the Liberal Party.
There is also a concerted effort among the international news organizations which are being sponsored by non-governmental organizations identified with billionaire George Soros, such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International.
It is for these reasons that there is a raging battle on Facebook for the hearts and minds of our fellow Filipinos as we struggle with the biased news coverage by local and foreign traditional media of President Duterte.
The most glaring example is the by now famous or infamous incident of his allegedly cursing then US President Barack Obama in the press conference prior to his departure for the ASEAN Summit last year in Vientiane, Laos. If you review the video posted by the Philippine Presidential Communications Office in their YouTube channel, you will be able to confirm that President Duterte did not curse President Obama.
Presently, pro-Duterte Facebook pages and accounts are being mass reported by social media operatives identified with the Liberal Party for violations of your community standards. One page with over two million followers, Senyora Santibañez, has been taken down after being reported.
I enclose screen captures of the page of one of the social media operatives identified with the Liberal Party which gives detailed instructions to their supporters as to how to report pro-Duterte pages to Facebook.
I hope that you will find merit in this appeal and understand how Facebook has become a powerful tool in our fight for a clean and honest government.
