De La Salle University professor of Political Science Antonio Contreras said that contrary to what most people call "disrespectful", the text message received by Vice President Leni Robredo was a way of saving her from publlic shaming.

Robredo resigned from the President's cabinet after receiving a text message from the Cabbinet Secretary relaying Duterte's message that discourages her from further attending cabinet meetings.

"So you would have preferred that the President issued a numbered memo firing the VP than a back-channeling through a text that would have allowed her to resign with dignity to save her face?" Contreras wrote.

He said making it public was Robredo's mistake.

"Think. Wouldn't it have looked much better to her image of defiance if the public only knew she just resigned from a position in a way that evinced principled strength, instead of what she has placed herself now with that disclosure. That she was in fact fired." he added.
