Arnel Patawaran, a lifestyle editor at Manila Bulletin said that a friend of his residing in Recto in Lawton claimed that the areas known for muggers and snatchers are now free from these criminals.

He said his Uber driver even said that driving at night is no longer so scary, and that costumers are also less scared, since he even brought home drunk girls at the dead of the night.

"Wala na sila sa kalye, yun' masasamang loob, sila na takot ngayon (the bad ones are no longer out on the streets, they're the ones afraid now)." "Kay Duterte kaya 'yan (Is it attributable to Duterte)? I ask. He shrugs his shoulder, "Siguro (maybe)." he said, describing the incident.

He said he also noticed more and more commuters using their phones and being less afraid of muggers in the streets.

He said he sometimes forgets that it has only been 150 days since Duterte sat as president but the effects are already present.

However, the Philippines remains to be in a bad light in international media.

"I hope this is it, Philippines. Change has come, but we're really just warming up."
