Rappler, apparently funded by two foreign investors, Omidyar and North Based Media, is supposed to be investigated on by the congress, says political analyst Antonio Contreras.
"Omidyar investing in Rappler deserves a full-blown Congressional Inquiry not only because there is a Constitutional prohibition against foreign capital in media. More dangerously is that Omidyar co-funded Revolutionary groups that led to regime change in Ukraine." he wrote.
The 1987 Philippine Constitution Article XVI, Section 11 says "The ownership and management of mass media shall be limited to citizens of the Philippines, or to corporations, cooperatives or associations, wholly-owned and managed by such citizens."
Omidyar is a part of a 'fact-checking project' which it funds along side with the National Endowment for Democracy. Omidyar funded revolutionary groups that were involved in the overthrow of Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych last year.
"Together with USAID, they funded the activities of pro-regime change NGOs whose strategies are almost similar with the tactics employed by Rappler and the yellows." Contreras added.

He tagged Senator Nancy Binay in the post, saying the matter was serious and that it needed a serious response.
"I am now calling on Congress to investigate this."
