The senators also conceded to the difficulty of solving the problem of the country when it comes to illegal drug trade.

Senate Majority leader Vicente Sotto III said he will not object even if the president asks for a one year extension.

“On a personal note, even if he asks for one year, that’s okay with me, as long as he continues the fight because it is one of the biggest and most pressing problems of young Filipinos and Filipino families. A one year extension is fine with me,” Sotto said.

“In the first place, we didn’t expect it to be this pervasive. Even us lawmakers are taken aback. I’ve been involved in the fight against drugs since 1988 and I too am surprised at the magnitude of the drug problem,” he added. MJM
