Second ethics case filed against De Lima
Another ethics complaint was filed against Senator Leila de Lima on Tuesday.
Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto II, chair if the Committee on Ethics and Privileges confirmed this on Wednesday, saying he has yet to read the complaint.
“I will make sure that that the letter that we received last night be – a new complaint that was filed last night – I’ll make sure that all the members get a copy, so that when we call for a hearing next week,” Sotto said.
The first complaint claimed that De Lima was involved in the proliferation iof drugs in the New Bilibid Prison, it also accused her of being romantically involved with her married driver.
Senator Panfilo Lacson, vice chair of the committee, said he is "inclined" to move that the complaints be dismissed due to jurisdiction.
Lacson said the unethical acts transpired long before De Lima was senator.
The ethics panel will have its third hearing next week, and is set to settle the issue of jurisdiction before tackling the first complaint.
Sotto said it remains to be decided if the two complaints can be merged.
Despite their disagreements, Lacson said he "pitied" De Lima, saying he knew what it felt like to be in her position.
Lacson was harassed and linked to several crimes when Gloria Arroyo was president.

Senator Manny Pacquiao, another member of the ethics committee and an ally of President Rodrigo Duterte, also said he pities De Lima.
"Naaawa nga ako sa kanya dahil syempre bilang may nanay din ako." Pacquiao told reporters."Pero kailangan natin 'yung katotohanan, kailangan natin 'yung tama para sa kabutihan".
It was he who moved to oust De Lima.
De Lima now faces a House Probe and is facing an electoral protest and a possible graft case from teh Department of Justice. MJM
