PRESIDENT
Rodrigo Duterte said Friday early dawn, September 30 that he does not talk to
criminals.
This is the
President’s response when asked by a reporter about Jaybee Sebastian’s request
to talk with him privately about the latter’s knowledge of the illegal drug
trade inside the New Bilibid Prison.
“I do not talk to criminals. If
he want, then go to a Fiscal or write a letter to Foreign Affairs Secretary
Perfecto Yasay,” he said.
He added that if Sebastian was
involved in drugs, it was him who brought himself to trouble.
“Kagagawan niyo yan, when you
decided to use illegal drugs you should have known the consequences,” Duterte
said.
“I am telling you now, to all
drug users (pushers/lords), stop it!” Duterte reiterated.
It can be recalled that Sebastian’s
lawyer Edgar Arriba said that his client will only speak only with the
President about his knowledge on the drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison.
The lawyer added
that the incident showed that there was a clear and present danger to the
inmate's life.
"Napakarami
niyang alam regarding the drug trade inside and outside NBP," said Arriba.
"Ayaw niyang magsalita simply because alam niyang lalong manganganib ang
buhay niya."
Sebastian was
the most prominent name that surfaced in last week's House of Representatives
hearing on the illegal drug trade inside the national penitentiary, with fellow
inmates linking him to Senator Leila De Lima. AJRSP
