After knowing that former Pangasinan governor Amado Espino Jr now 5th District Representative and two other Pangasinan officials mistakenly linked to illegal drugs, President Rodrigo Duterte apologizes for the "negligence" he made and not verifying the list he announced publicly.
Other involved are Pangasinan District Board Member Raul Sison, and Pangasinan Provincial Administrator Raffy Baraan.
The President said he takes 'full responsibility' for the mistake.
"I'd like to apologize to you publicly. I say now, I'm very sorry. Trabaho ko 'yan (That's my job); it's part of my territory. Sometimes you're correct that life is not fair," he said
in a news conference after he inspected a shabu laboratory at the foot of Mount Arayat in Pangasinan.
"Insofar as the drugs I think that somehow we were negligent in counterchecking in the first report," Duterte said.
Espino, a Liberal Party ally, was tagged in the matrix as the "richest politician in Northern Luzon" who has "amassed unexplained wealth."
"I take full responsibility [dahil] ako nag-announce (because I announced it)," he said.
"Hindi ako kargado ng 'fried chicken' tulad ng iba. Masama bunganga ko pero 'pag ako nagkamali, it comes from the heart, I'm sorry," he added.
Espina, in a report, said he was humbled upon knowing that no less than the Presisent publicly apologized on the matter.
Earlier, it can be recalled that Espina met with Duterte to ask him for a chance to clear his name.
The President in turn ordered an investigation on the former governor. AJRSP
