Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte and 22 city councilors underwent a drug test Tuesday, September 6, with all of them yielding negative results.
Only three city councilors were unable to undergo the drug test today and they are ABC president January Duterte, Councilors Mabel Acosta and Rene Elias Lopez. Duterte is in Cebu for a medical leave, Lopez is on emergency leave while Acosta is on official business.
The three City Council members will however be undergoing drug test at a later date.
The drug test was conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency before the start of Tuesday's regular session at the Sangguniang Panlungsod building.
Results showed that all 23 councilors and Vice Mayor Duterte all tested negative of illegal drugs in their system. Urine sample were taken from all 23 city officials.
Duterte said he initially wanted blood and hair samples for their drug test but he was told by the experts that there is no available facility here in Davao City that could test blood and hair samples of traces of illegal drugs.
Duterte said he will be personally taking another drug test in Cebu or Manila with his blood or hair as samples. He said he is doing this to finally put to rest all rumors that he was into drugs.
Duterte said he also would require all of the City Council members to be undergoing compulsory drug test annually from now on, as required by law. AJRSP with PR
