No 18-man team from UN to review Human Rights in PH

The United Nations is not sending an 18-man team to the Philippines to review the human rights situation in the country.

According to the United Nations Human Rights, the review of the 18-man Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights will happen in Geneva on September 28 and September 29.

A broadsheet earlier reported that the team will arrive in the Philippines this week to review the country's human rights situation.


The 18 independent human rights experts will review a "range of issues relating to the Philippines’ implementation of the ICESCR (International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights) with a Philippine delegation." , according to the UNHR.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said  the review is annual and that the representative to join the review in Geneva has yet to be determined.

The Philippines is among the 164 states that ratified the ICESCR.

The review will be from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. on September 28 (Manila time) and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. September 29 (Manila time).

UNHR said that the Philippines already submitted a report that they will review.

The result of the review will be published by the UNHR on October 10.
