Miriam to be buried beside her son

THE late Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago will be buried beside her son Alexander.

This according to brother General Benjamin Defensor saying it was the request of the late Senator.

“Miriam wanted to be buried beside her son because she was very close to him,” Defensor’s brother said in a DZMM interview Thursday.

Miriam, the feisty, veteran Senator dubbed as the “Iron Lady of Asia” died peacefully in her sleep while at the St Luke's Medical Center in Taguig Thursday, September 29 at 71 years old.

In 2003, Alexander committed suicide. He died due to a self-triggered gunshot in his head. It was claimed by Miriam that depression from a failing grade in Constitutional Law at the Ateneo de Manila University pushed his son to commit suicide.

Santiago's remains will be interred at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cubao, Quezon City.

It is open for public viewing until 3 am but food and flowers are prohibited inside the cathedral.

The former veteran Senator, who also ran for President last May 2016 elections, will be buried on Saturday, October 1. AJRSP
