The Human Rights Watch has expressed their concern for De Lima’s safety
after the convicts who served as witnesses during the hearing disclosed the
address and mobile phone number of the senator.
“We are aghast that the lawmakers presiding over the hearing, who are
political allies of President Rodrigo Duterte, conducted it in a way that
grossly violates the privacy and the rights of a sitting legislator. Her fellow
legislators in both houses of Congress should denounce this attempt to silence
and intimidate her,” the Human Rights Watch said in a statement.
The group said that they are “deeply concerned about the implications to
the security and safety” of the senator, especially now that she is under fire
for her alleged links to the drug trade in the New Bilibid Prison.
