After netizens mocked the misquotation of DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade regarding the traffic in EDSA, Senator Gringo Honasan took to Twitter his sentiments regarding social media sites.
He called such as “unwitting purveyors of misinformation” as it continues to present inaccurate data and information to the public. He also cited that the highly criticized statement of Tugade was inaccurately quoted.
“It is the burden of both mainstream and social media to give accurate data or they become unwitting purveyors of misinformation. DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade drew flak recently for allegedly saying that traffic is JUST a state of mind,” Honasan said.
He defended Tugade , and explained what the media misunderstood. “What he actually said verbatim was: ‘A state of mind adds to the problem of traffic.’”
Teddy Locsin Jr., a veteran TV anchor from ANC, replied to Honasan’s tweet to share the same sentiments.
What Tugade actually said was, “A state of mind adds to the problem of traffic, let’s stop blaming traffic. If you’re late, that’s that. One things we will have to address in solving traffic: change your psyche. Change your psyche that allows you to every now and then use as a convenient excuse that one word: traffic. On our own we should change. We must learn to tell the truth. Let’s teach ourselves (to be truthful). That will be a good start.” ASCS
