Hundreds of
President Rodrigo Duterte’s supporters have occupied the Quezon Memorial Circle
in Quezon City yesterday to conduct a rally.
The program
was organized by Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) and
MRRD NECC (Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte National Executive Coordinating Committee).
DDS-Metro Manila Chairman Suhaili Abangon was among those who spoke during the
event.
Abangon
reminisced his experience during the early days of campaign in Metro Manila for
Duterte’s presidency, which started as early as 2015.
“De Lima at
Trillanes, noon pa hinahadlangan mo ang aming mahal na pangulo. Hanggang
ngayon, binabatikos niyo ang gaming mahal na pangulo,” Abangon said.
“Alam niyo
gating bansang Pilipinas,” he added.
The program
was called “People’s Call for Patriotism”, where those who showed up where
oriented on the idea of patriotism.
Most of the
speeches that were delivered praised the president’s anti-drug, criminality,
and corruption efforts. They also defended him from the criticisms that are
being thrown at him.
A pledge
that testifies their faith in Duterte was led by Department Interior and Local
Government (DILG) Undersecretary Emily Padilla.
The pledge
said that Duterte is the only leader who is able to solve problems that corrupt
the Philippines. They promised being devoted to his anti-drug and criminality
program.
“Sa harap
ng iba’t-ibang pagsubok, nananatiling buo ang aking tiwala sa ipinangakong
pagbabago ng ating mahal na pangulo.”
Because of the
heat, the crowds took comfort under the shade of trees and umbrellas. An
elderly man collapsed midway through the program.
Those who
received stubs at the start of the program were given food and water during the
end of the event.
Despite the
rising number in the war on drugs, the president has called on to the public to
give him an extension, an extra six more months to finish the job.
