Duterte has previously criticized Ban’s remarks on extrajudicial killings in the country.

On June 2, even before he took office, Duterte criticized the UN for failing to solve the conflict in the Middle East and not helping the "black people" in Africa.

Months after that, Duterte said he would get the Philippines out of the UN because he was frustrated with the international body.

It was clarified by the Department of Foreign affairs to be a threat, and that the country is still a member of UN.

Earlier on Wednesday, Duterte also met with United States President Barrack Obama.

Referring to Duterte and Obama, DFA spokesman Charles Jose said, “I think na-iron out na ang kanilang differences.” (I think they have ironed out their differences.)

This was after Duterte criticized Obama for the criticism of Washington over extrajudicial killings in the country.
