The Duterte administration will be paying for the P2.1 million hospital bills of a police officer who was badly injured during the implementation of the anti-illegal drug operation in Northern Mindanao.

Police Senior Inspector Ronald Eugenio was personally visited by President Rodrigo Duterte where he was assured that his hospital bills would be paid by the government. Duterte also gave a P250,000 cash aid to Eugenios’ family.

According to the police station commander of Opol, Misamis Oriental, Inspector Randy Anito, Eugenio was hit on the jaw during a shootout. “The bullet existed to the neck, which severely damaged the throat of Eugenio, prompting the doctors to remove his vocal chords,” he said.

Despite his survival, Eugenio’s voice is lost and he is still trying to recover in the hospital.
The president visited him after holding a command conference with senior regional police officials in Cagayan de Oro. He also met and “talked with the men.”

Duterte also gave out P200,000 cash to the police officers who were recipient of awards, plus another P250,000 cash to the police officers’ units.
