The Duterte
administration will be paying for the P2.1 million hospital bills of a police
officer who was badly injured during the implementation of the anti-illegal
drug operation in Northern Mindanao.
Police
Senior Inspector Ronald Eugenio was personally visited by President Rodrigo
Duterte where he was assured that his hospital bills would be paid by the
government. Duterte also gave a P250,000 cash aid to Eugenios’ family.
According
to the police station commander of Opol, Misamis Oriental, Inspector Randy
Anito, Eugenio was hit on the jaw during a shootout. “The bullet existed to the
neck, which severely damaged the throat of Eugenio, prompting the doctors to
remove his vocal chords,” he said.
Despite his
survival, Eugenio’s voice is lost and he is still trying to recover in the
hospital.
The
president visited him after holding a command conference with senior regional
police officials in Cagayan de Oro. He also met and “talked with the men.”
Duterte
also gave out P200,000 cash to the police officers who were recipient of
awards, plus another P250,000 cash to the police officers’ units.
Duterte was
in Misamis Oriental to lead the ceremonial switch-on of the FDC coal fired
power plant. He then went to Cagayan De Oro City, where he talked with the
senior police officials in the region. ASCS
