Senator Leila de Lima is allegedly calling on to the International Criminal Court to intervene in domestic affairs.
De Lima’s action came into light after Sass Sasot shared the news that Aryeh Neier, President Emeritus of the Open Society Foundations and founder of the Human Rights Watch wrote an article about President Rodrigo Dutere which stated:
“One prominent Philippine political figure, Leila de Lima, a senator and former justice minister, is already calling on the ICC to take action. Everyone around the world who is committed to due process and human rights should take up her plea. The fact that a popular head of state is trampling the rule of law in the Philippines makes a fast, decisive response all the more necessary.”
Several citizens have called the senator’s action as “treason to the land”, stating that this is disrespectful to the President of the country and the people who voted for him. They also questioned how the senate plans to respond to this.
There has been no confirmation from the part of the senator. MJM
