Former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was a beaut yesterday, September 5, as she spoke to the reporters—fully made up in her red suit and coiffed hair, two months after her release.

“Freedom is always healthy,” she said, something that she now has plenty of since her release from hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC). She even asked the media if they wanted beauty tips.

However, Arroyo said that she is still unsure of her health condition. Currently, she is suffering from multiple cervical spondylosis, a disease that primarily affects the bones.

The former president is set to leave for Germany on September 20 for a medical treatment.

“I sent [my doctors] my medical records. There were additional tests done [that were sent to them last week]. Then will send their diagnosis and prescription,” she explained.

Despite not needing to wear a neck brace 24/7, she used to wear it until she was granted her freedom from detention. “It is only used to support the neck at times when support is necessary. The neck muscles will have atrophy if it is worn every day,” her lawyer Ferdinand Topacio said.

Arroyo and her husband, former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo was granted by the Sandiganbayan to travel to Germany and France, September 20 to October 3, and to Hong Kong from October 29 to November 4.

Her trip to Paris and Hong Kong will be a vacation with her family which she also plans to spend visiting Filipino communities. ASCS
