The “Abante” tabloid released an issue on Tuesday with a false headline, claiming President Rodrigo Duterte encouraged the killings of Americans in Mindanao.

The headline read: “Basta kano, patayin! –PD30”

Duterte on Monday said that the US Special Forces must leave Mindanao since their presence would only  encourage the rebelling forces in there to strike.

The US Special Forces, they have to go. They have to (leave) Mindanao. There are many (Americans) there,” he said.

“I just could not say it (at the Asean summit in Laos) because I don’t want a rift with America. The situation there (in Mindanao) will be more volatile. If they are seen there, they will really be killed,” he added.

The tabloid was heavily criticized for the mistake which many claimed was a “tactic to earn from the public.”

Since Duterte sat as president, several news outlets have released false information, such as TV5’s false report on the issue of Duterte allegedly cursing US president Barack Obama.
