These were brave words, and they came from no less than the country’s top magistrate.
Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno made that point clear during a forum of foreign correspondents in Pasig City.
“I do not serve Presidents, excuse me …. That’s unforgivable,” she said.
When she was asked if she preferred the word “endure,” Sereno said, with a smile: “Well, I don’t necessarily have to endure anyone, either.”
Such a statement seemed to prove Sereno’s committed advocacy of judicial independence.
This might also one of the reasons why she defended the alleged narco-judges and mentioned 'No warrant, no surrender.'
