Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella expressed the President’s intent to allow public demonstration protesting against the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Hero’s Cemetery.

According to him, the President will assign a number of policemen to manage the traffic near the areas where protesters will gather and hold public demos.

After the announcement of Marcos’ burial, a group consisting of relatives of victims of martial law and civil organizations have spoken up and threatened to hold a rally to signify their opposition to the President’s decision.

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Marin Andanar, in behalf of the President, said that Duterte was just fulfilling his promise to bury the former strongman at the hero’s cemetery in order to put an end to the division that has been hindering the country’s politics.

Andanar was also lenient in the matters of public demonstrations “but the protesters must carry the protest peacefully without obstructing traffic flow.”

Vice President Leni Robredo has recently expressed her strong opposition, saying that “Marcos is no hero”.

“How can be allow a hero’s burial for a man who has plundered our country and was responsible for the death and disappearance of many Filipinos?” Leni said in a statement. “Those who have greatly committed crimes and moral turpitude to the Filipino people cannot be buried in the Libingin ng mga Bayani.”

Leni is just one of the many who are opposing the decision for Marcos to be buried at the Hero’s Cemetery on September 18.
