Pres. Rody: I am fighting a monster, I will destroy the oligarchs

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte said on Thursday lambasted anew saying he will destroy them.

The tough President, speaking in the Mindanao Environmental Summit in Davao City, Duterte said that he will fight them.

“I am fighting a monster. I am just two months old (as president) but believe me, I will destroy their clutches sa ating bayan,” he said.


“Yung mga mina, napupunta ‘yan sa mga oligarchs. Walang iba ‘yang ginawa kung hindi mag-influence peddling,” he said.

He added that most of the mining permits come from the so-called Imperial Manila.

But, Duterte underscored that not all rich businessmen are oligarchs.

“She’s a billionaire (referring to Sec. Gina Lopez)... but she’s a crusader, she loves the country, and she hates oligarchs,” he said.

On Wednesday, Duterte tagged businessman Roberto Ongpin as among the oligarchs who have an undue influence on government, which he said is something he intends to end during his term.

"Ang plano ko talaga is... destroy the oligarchs that are embedded in government. Iyan-iyan sila. I’ll give you an example, publicly, in front of the — Ongpin, Roberto. Kay [Ferdinand] Marcos noon, trade minister, I think. Malakas siya sa succession,” Duterte said earlier in a speech delivered before the Parish Pastoral Council on Responsible Voting (PPRCV). AJRSP
