Word war is over

"I get went head to head with the Chief Justice. I would apologize to the Chief Justice for the harsh words. It was never intended. Ba't ako kasi as a result of the magnitude of the issue."

These were the words of President Duterte on Thursday after giving harsh comments to CJ Maria Lourdes Sereno.

"It was my way of solving the problem within the ambit of my powers as president. Kayo ang humihingi eh, even the media," he added.

Sereno had composed Duterte a letter after the president connected seven judges to illicit drugs.

In the letter, Sereno told Duterte that she had exhorted judges against making themselves "physically responsible" if there were no warrants issued for their capture.

Duterte reacted with words that beg to be defended, cautioning against an established emergency and notwithstanding raising the likelihood of proclaiming military law.

Sereno, as far as it matters for her, declined to react to Duterte's tirade.

On Thursday, Duterte repeated that it was only his obligation to educate general society about the perils that they confront with the expansion of drugs. He said that as president, he didn't need to "make a halfhearted effort of the warrant of capture."

"Trabaho ko kasi 'yan," he said. "Para malaman mo na 'yung katabi mo, adik."
