FOLLOWING the “no holds barred” bombshell of President Rodrigo Duterte slamming a lady senator as “immoral woman,” Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director Gen. Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa on Wednesday is set to probe into the activities of Senator Leila de Lima’s driver whom President Duterte accused of collecting money from the New Bilibid Prisons.

“To satisfy you, I will conduct my investigation,” De la Rosa said.

Duterte may have not publicly named the senator but speculators said they were certain that the President were referring to De Lima as the shoes fit to her.

Duterte described the lady senator during his speech at the 115th police service anniversary celebration in Camp Crame, Wednesday saying he was pointing to the one considered as his great opponent in his waged war against drugs.

However, Dela Rosa was quick to add that until Duterte directs them a formal order to launch a probe, De la Rosa said the PNP would not meddle in the personal affairs of De Lima.

“Sa ngayon, hindi kami nakikialam baka mamaya gawing personal issue against us eh haharap pa naman kami sa Senado. Hindi kami nakikialam dyan,” De la Rosa said.

De Lima, a former human rights commissioner, “has been a staunch critic of President Duterte and his leadership style of encouraging cops to kill drug suspects without due process.”

When asked if Duterte’s revelation would affect the police when they face the senator, he said: “Affect me? No, we are very focused on the issue, not the side issues, that is different,” the police chief said. AJRSP
