Upon the negative feedback given to them by PNP Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, the PNP Region Six gunned down four alleged drug pushers in separate buy-bust operations in Iloilo and Guimaras, in less than 24 hours.
The operations happened between 6 p.m. on Wednesday, and 5 p.m. on Thursday and the suspected drug pushers were identified as Michael Angelo Abebiner and Paul Centeno from Ajuy town, Michael Huesca in Passi City, and Renante Tanaleon from Buenavista town in Guimaras province.
The negative feedback of Dela Rosa seemed to have catalysed the operations of PNP Region Six in the massive illegal drugs crackdown.
“We draw inspiration from the uncommon resolve and passion of the Chief PNP in this fight to win the war on illegal drugs by year’s end. Towards attaining that end, we appeal for the widest support from various stakeholders in our community,” said chief public information officer Supt. Gilbert Gorero.
On August 26, Dela Rosa is expected to visit Camp Delgado, which is the PRO-6 headquarters in Iloilo City. He recently tagged Western Visayas, Bicol, and the National Capital Region as “barely passing” or just having not even a satisfactory rating in the current “Oplan Double Barrel” campaign.
If police chiefs in the said regions fail to improve their performance, they might be relieved from their positions.
Among the killed suspects, the first one to die was Abebiner during a shootout with the police, past 6 p.m. on Wednesday in Concepcion town, Iloilo. According to Chief Insp. Jonathan Pinuela, Concepcion police chief, Abebiner tried to run away from the cops but was later on cornered at the cemetery in Bakhawan Sur. He tried to shoot but the operatives fired back.
Meanwhile, Tanaleon was killed around 5:45 am in Buenavista town, Guimaras, on Thursday. Insp. Raymund Cruz, police chief of Buenavista, said that he was among those who surrendered during Oplan Tokhang, but he merely transferred his operations from San Lorenzo to Buenavista. He was killed upon his attempt to shoot.
Huesca was killed past noon on Thursday after he also resisted arrest during a buy-bust operation. Centeno also tried to shoot at a policeman, but failed to inflict severe damages. ASCS
