There is no stopping the burial of Ferdinand Marcos in the Heroes’ Cemetery.
The controversial plan to bury late President Ferdinand Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani is now reported to take place in the 18th of September, a week after his 99th birth anniversary.
The Philippine star reported on Saturday morning that former Senator Bongbong Marcos has announced that President Rodrigo Duterte gave the family the “go-signal” to transfer the dictator’s remains to said cemetery.
The body will be moved from a mausoleum in the family’s home province, Ilocos Norte.
Marcos said that the family is now coordinating with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who has the jurisdiction over the cemetery.
However, the Malacañang Palace has yet to give an official announcement. When asked about the matter, Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella and Palace Communications Secretary Martin Andanar claimed that they have not discussed it yet.
The Libingan ng mga Bayani is the resting place for Filipinos considered as heroes and martyrs.
President Duterte argued that Marcos deserves a spot in the Libingan, despite his infamy in Philippine history "because he was a Filipino soldier, period."
The president also claims that burying Marcos in the Libingan would initiate “healing” among the Filipino people. MJM
