The budget for the travels of the Vice President of the Philippines for 2017 has been cut by almost 50 percent.
As seen in the proposed General Appropriations Act (GAA) for 2017, VP Leni Robredo’s travel allowance has been reduced to P37 million from the nearly 60 million allotted this year.
The overall budget for the Office of the Vice President for next year has been cut to P428 million from P500 million.
To Robredo, this may mean having to take fewer trips back and forth to her hometown, Naga City. However, the Vice President doesn’t seem dismayed at all.
Vic San Agustin in hos column for Interaksyon.com quoted Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno as saying that Robredo was “very happy” even with the budget cut.
This is because the allotment for the two agencies she is heading will be increased.
Agustin said that the combined budgets of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) will increase by P59 million for next year. MJM
