A TOTAL of three members of a local extremist group, Ansar Al-Khilafa Philippines, a group who pledged allegiance to the Independent State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) were killed on Saturday, August 20, in an encounter with the police’s Special Action Force (SAF) in the seaside Maasim town in Sarangani.
In a report, Superintendent Romeo Galgo Jr., information officer of the Police Regional Office 12 in General Santos City said on Sunday, August 21, that the SAF team only intended to check on the reported presence of Mohammad Jaafar Maguid in Barangay Daliao in Maasim but a brief encounter happened.
Maguid also known as “Commander Tokboy" is the founding leader of Ansar Al-Khilafa Philippines.
Also, a loyal follower of Maguid identified as Mustapha Gansing was arrested after Saturday’s encounter in Barangay Daliao after he voluntarily surrendered a 9 millimeter UZI machine pistol to the raiding team.
"We also found black ISIS flags in the house of Kupang Sahak, also known in the area as a staunch follower of Maguid," Galgo said.
Moreover, Galgo added they are but thankful to vigilant Muslim villagers who provided them information on the presence of the ISIS-related group. AJRSP
