Death toll on drug-related crimes reach 1,000 (ABS-CBN research data)

In only a span of 95 days, there have already been 1,000 drug-related fatalities during the intensified crackdown on illegal drugs as mandated by President Rodrigo Duterte.

According to the data gathered by ABS-CBN, their Investigative and Research Group that has been monitoring from May 10 to August 12 showed that the death toll has reached a thousand since Duterte won.


598 or 60% of the killings were related to police operations while 211 oe 31% were killed by still unidentified gunmen. 91 bodies (9%) were found in a location different from the crime scene.

Cops would usually say that suspects who are killed during police ops were armed or have resisted arrest. They are expected to face a Senate inquiry as they are being doubted over their police ops protocols, especially those which involve anti-illegal drugs.

ABS-CBN’s monitoring shows that at least six people are killed every day in police operations.

Human rights advocates have expressed their concern and have called on the authorities regarding the spate of killings since the war on drugs has been declared by the president. However, Duterte remains defiant. He says that it’s his job to eliminate the drug menace in the country.
